Inspiring researchers to engage with the public
SCANDLE researcher featured in National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement Handbook
Dr Martin Coath, one of SCANDLE's Postdoctoral Researchers, has been profiled in a handbook published by the UK's National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE). The handbook is a joint venture between the NCCPE, the Beacons for Public Engagement and Vitae (a national organisation championing the personal, professional and career development of doctoral researchers and research staff). They have joined forces to create a resource to support researchers in communicating with the public about their work.
Public engagement covers a range of different types of activity from more traditional one-way forms of engagement, such as lectures and talks, to more interactive engagement, such as the co-production of research.
The booklet, entitled 'The Engaging Researcher', aims to inspire other researchers to find ways in which the activity and benefits of research can be shared with the public. It highlights some of the many ways researchers can engage with the public, offering practical tips for getting started and exploring how public engagement can benefit researchers, their work and the people they reach.
